Performance:

This is my favorite topic, and if it weren’t yours also, you wouldn’t be here right?

After six months of testing and tuning of port layouts, head designs, ignitions, pipes, and carburetion, I have finally pulled together a complete 500 Sabertooth package that is both extremely powerful, at just over 103 hp and 68 ft/lbs torque, but also quite ride able and user friendly. As you can see from the dyno chart, the ultra wide torque curve is generated way down low around 6000 rpm and carried  across in a wide and useable powerband to 9500 rpm. This shows you don’t have to be a pro rider to benefit from this versatile power plant.

Testing and Tuning:

We're not into ‘seat of the pants’ tuning. Every component and porting change has been extensively tested on a Dyno Jet rear wheel dynamometer to ensure the optimal performance of this package. Only the best performing components are chosen. It’s then track tested to confirm our dyno results and analyzed using a Hot Tach exhaust gas and cylinder head temperature gauge. You can be rest assured the 500 Sabertooth motor package you're getting is the motor configuration we've tested and proven...nothing less.

Reliability:

This is a topic that many engine builders avoid addressing, and rightfully so in most cases. Until recently, big bore aftermarket cylinder kits have been anything but reliable. It seems like once you started increasing the stroke to make a little power, the pistons became a ticking time bomb from the aggressive rod angle. I owned a few of those motors and found myself crossing my fingers when I’d take them out for the weekend, hoping my new piston was going to last.

The Honda TRX 500 Sabertooth Kit from CP Industries was designed from the piston out. What that means is that you start with a large, robust 95mm piston and mate it to a long rod that will handle the power and limit the rod angle. Weight and balance the crank to the mass of the piston/rod combo, then manufacture the cylinder with a ultra modern port layout and a large cooling capacity. Team it up with a cast head and removable billet o-ringed dome, and you have a motor that will give you years of performance and reliability that is unmatched by the competitors.
